Riverside Property and Systems Built in Stages
Mirfield runs along the Calder, and the housing spreads from the older centre out towards Battyeford, Northorpe and the Hoptons. There is a wider mix here than in most of the Spen Valley towns — substantial detached property on the better roads, terraced stock nearer the middle, and converted buildings along the river.
The larger properties are where we most often find heating that has been extended rather than designed: a boiler sized for the house as it was twenty years ago, long pipe runs added for an extension, and radiators that have never been balanced against each other since. The symptom is predictable — rooms at the end of the run that never quite get there while the rest of the house is fine.
