A Market Town With Three Generations of Heating in It
Heckmondwike sits in the middle of the Spen Valley and its housing has grown in layers — Victorian terraces near the market, inter-war semis spreading outwards, and newer estates towards Norristhorpe. Open up a system in any of the older stock and you tend to find the same thing: heating that has been added to rather than designed.
Microbore run off an older gravity system. A combi fitted where a hot water cylinder used to sit. Radiators moved during a kitchen extension and never rebalanced afterwards. None of that is automatically wrong, but it means a fault is usually the symptom of an earlier compromise rather than a component that simply wore out.
